A pic of two great friends: Steve Moldovan (L) and Ron Valente (R) !!
Ron Valente, formerly of Valente Gardens, North Berwick, Maine, was a complex and delightful person: a modest Yankee gentleman, a great husband, a devoted father, and a truly significant friend to have - but, most of all, he was a passionately talented, exacting daylily hybridizer.
Tragically, in July of 2001, Ron was taken from us, way too soon. Through Ron's patient, careful mentoring of Jim and I, summer after summer, along with his ebullient, Italian, loving personality, he changed our lives forever. We remember him, every day, with great admiration and love, and we will miss him deeply, always.
In 2021, Jim and I completed our painstaking, 17-year review of all of Ron's daylily genetic materials, which he created between the mid-80s and 2001. Ron lived long enough to introduce 27 of his lovelies, personally. In 2004, Ron's family entrusted Jim and I to review Ron's hybridizing notes and plans, and all of his work, seeking out future intros and making use of his fine genetic materials. We have done so, ending up with 54 lovely cultivars comprising the full Valente Collection.
We are honored to continue presenting Ron's fine work, by presenting all 54 of these lovelies to the world, AND by moving his genetic materials forward as breeding components in countless future daylily crossing experiments that we've done, and we continue to do.
